    Kendo is the Japanese martial art of fencing. It was developed from many schools of Japanese swordsmanship, or kenjutsu. Although a martial art in many respects, kendo is not practiced as a form of self defense. Steeped in tradition, demanding in its practice, and rewarding through commitment, kendo is a sport that encourages more than the physical activity of striking an opponent. Through hard work and concentration, kendo will improve the mind and body while promoting personal growth. Respect, etiquette, humility, and discipline are among a few of the very important aspects of kendo. Kendo can be practiced and enjoyed throughout one's life.

     The Madison Kendo Dojo was first formed by Travis Stronach and J. Mark Kenoyer in the fall of 2007 and held its first practice November 5, 2007. We are a non profit organization. Practices are now being held twice a week on Mondays and Wednesdays. We are Madison's first and only dojo open to the public and we welcome all people to come and join. We have special training for youth, and parents are encouraged to bring their kids to observe if they are interested in learning kendo.
